Having spent a great deal of my career performing as a freelance professional,  in recent years I’ve been able to focus more attention towards jazz and now work to refine and develop what has been considered by many to be a fairly personal approach. Having released my first featured CD, As It Was,  I now find myself performing more regularly with the trio, and while also maintaining a faculty position in the Jazz Studies Program at Capilano College,  continue to perform in both commercial and jazz freelance settings.

I’ve acquired a fairly broad musical knowledge that, coupled with my ongoing interest to explore,  has led me to discover or sometimes rework elements (especially harmonic) that now characterize much of my vocabulary, and challenge me to keep “playing over my head.”  I enjoy these aspects; they motivate me to continue to practice, help me to develop and upgrade teaching concepts, and of course, inspire me to now and then perform. I’ve been described as  “one of Vancouver’s best-kept secrets.”

Having a website is a new experience for someone who now earns most of his income as an employed instructor/musician and only occasionally acts as a ‘leader’. I’m hoping that it will help me to expand my self-promotion horizons and increase my profile. The site offers a more detailed account of both my professional and personal experience, the usual links to pertinent sites, a page for me to share information and in future offer accessibility to lessons, and of course I’ll let you know of any upcoming gigs and projects that I’ve been chipping away at. Finally, as things develop and the second CD becomes a reality, the site will offer accessibility to the music. I look forward to hearing from you - your thoughts, your questions, or both.
